Review of Society (1989) by Ben R — 23 Aug 2011
Billy Whitney is a typical rich beverly hills 80s teen who starts noticing creepy unusual things happening in his neighborhood. When his super elite and snooty family start acting extremely bizarre,Bill starts uncovering the secrets of the elite group known as "The Society".
This is a superbly creepy metaphor for the elite society compared to the lower class of the real world. I found that the director was trying to beat that message over your head towards the very end of this creepfest. I love horror/suspense movies where the main character doesn't know who to trust or what to believe and this plays that main note just perfectly till the very end. It almost runs the risk of turning into total 80s cheese horror then gets saved somewhere towards the middle, then the later half is where all the creepy just weird stuff happens. A perfect midnight movie to watch by yourself or with a group of friends on a Friday night for some creepy thrills. If you find the movie boring at all during the first half, I strongly suggest you stick around till the very end for some of the most bizarre stuff ever shot on film during the 80s.
