Review of So I Married an Axe Murderer (1993) by Chris Z — 27 Aug 2009
It's one of those films that epitomizes a genre for a certain time, and in this case, it's the 90's quirky comedy. The shame of it is that Myers isn't quite engaging in the lead role and suffers from several instances comedy skit improvisations that don't work, particularly when the central conflict is so idiotically handled; the dramatic moments of exposition aren't particularly dramatic, nor are they particularly funny.
The best laughs come from the cameos, and that's never a good sign, but you can tell that the cast are trying to make the film work in an earnest way that has become lost on Myers in his later efforts.
