Review of Snowpiercer (2013) by Caius C — 12 Jan 2015
Here it is. The absolute best film of 2014. And my god was it a good one. Snowpiercer is the most extraordinary science fiction film to have hit theaters since District 9. Tackling sociopolitical themes and issues of class warfare and environmentalism alongside some of the most spectacular cinematography and visual elements seen all year, there really is nothing to fault Snowpiercer with.
Anchored by outstanding performances by the likes of Chris Evans, John Hurt and Tilda Swinton, the film never once stops to let you take a breather. With just a tad over two hours, Korean filmmaker Bong Joon Ho has achieved the impossible.
His English language debut is tightly woven, cleverly written, and jam packed with twists and turns that will have you on the edge and hanging on for dear life. In a year filled with reboots, sequels and remakes, it is incredibly refreshing to see such an outlier of a film even exist.
But it is most definitely a treat to remember.
