Review of Snowpiercer (2013) by Alex W — 29 Mar 2015
Great concept with a good story and one of the most inventive and unique films of the year. The social commentary is not to subtle in this which can hurt a story but with the story moving in less predictable directions it works.
This also has got to be some of the best set design of the year, you really get a stylistic feel for every section of the train as the story moves toward the front. There are a few memorable scenes including one on the trains school and an impressive fight scene lit only by torches.
Tilda Swinton also give a performance you wont soon forget among many great actors old and new. There are a couple moments that, perhaps because of cultural differences or a language barrier with the south korean director making his first english language film, don't work and come off awkward but this slight flaw doesn't ruin it.
