Review of Snowden (2016) by Rick A — 23 Sep 2016
Wow. See the movie "Snowden.".
Thinking Snowden's release of classified data was just an inside hacker job is just like thinking Watergate was just a break-in in an office complex. IT IS SO MUCH MORE !!!
Watergate was really about the intentional use of all branches of government, by the President of the U.S., to get rid of his version of personal and political "enemies"; the Attroney General, the Justice Department, the FBI, the CIA, the U.S. Treasury, and other arms of government were all being used illegally to target groups and individuals and to ensure that all power remained with the President and his "men." It's the closest we've ever come to a dictatorship.
The Snowden story has the same depth. The movie reveals how extensive and illegal was the cyber-intelligence gathering on people within the United States....millions and millions and millions of people, including you and me. Even Congress was being lied to, and even the President(s) were unaware of the extent of the crime against our Constitutional rights to privacy. Many laws have been revisited and changed since Snowden released the documents revealing the illegal snooping on most American citizens.
It's an amazing, scary story. And while it's a movie, most of what's on the screen is generally accurate.....which is the scariest thing about it.
