Citizen Four is clearly the film to see for the captivating footage of this major historical event in the making, but Snowden is a very good movie to know more about Edward Snowden as a person and what drove him to do what he did.

It's very well-done, Joseph Gordon-Levitt is great as always, and it'd be a fascinating slick movie even if it weren't a true event. The fact that it is is all the more thought-provoking now matter how you feel about his actions.

I would recommend, though, Edward Jay Epstein's book for an account that has extensive facts from a very different perspective than Stone and much of the media portrayals of Snowden. I was much more convinced by his investigation into the events than Stone's, but it's worth seeing a story like this from every side.
