Review of Snowden (2016) by Cesar D — 09 Jun 2017
There's no question that "Snowden" is a very invigorating, interesting movie about a real life event, in which everybody should be more aware that it took place. This movie really toys with the idea of exchanging freedom for security, and really gets its audience to question how much access the government has to everyone's private information.
This movie gets you thinking, and through the stand-out acting from Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Edward Snowden), it really makes this issue stand out. Gordon-Levitt even went as far as to slightly change his accent, and put on a deeper voice than his normal one, for the entirety of the film, and he did a fantastic job, if I hadn't have seen him in any other movies I'd've thought that was his real voice.
The main issue I have with this movie is the pacing, it really dragged on some parts that didn't really need to be dragged on, and some of the scenes in this movie just seemed pointless to me. It could've either replaced those scenes with more meaningful scenes that would contribute more to the story, or just find a way to cut a bit more and make it under 2 hours.
I feel that way the movie would've been more impactful, and could've left its audience with a more lasting impression. Overall though, "Snowden" is a fascinating story surrounded by good acting, and although its a bit slow at times, it is still worth watching if you're bored.
