Review of Snowden (2016) by Luke P — 15 Sep 2016
Best movie I've seen all year. An entertaining and thought-provoking movie about events that actually happened and which is directly relevant to all our personal daily lives. This is an excellent telling of the story of Edward Snowden and the sacrifices he made to expose the unconscionable and unethical mass surveillance of the NSA and the state department.
I knew the NSA could listen to all my private phone calls and Skype and facebook convos and see whats happening on my laptop webcam, but seeing it happen on the big screen made me feel it on a visceral and an emotional level.
The fact that the NSA can search through all our personal chats and conversations and tune into the webcams in our bedrooms the way we can use google to search through public information and flip through TV channels is disturbing.
I've since put a bandaid over my laptop webcam and started moving to more secure messaging systems like WhatsApp. Stay away from Kik, Skype, Facebook Chat, Google Hangouts, and Snapchat - they are not private or secure.
I would recommend this movie to all my family and friends. Must see.
