Review of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1938) by Daniel C — 25 Feb 2011
Been a while since I've seen this film - and obviously this is Disney's masterpiece, but they've come so far since then.
On the surface, this is a wonderful story about a repressed Princess by a jealous stepmother. Banished to the woods she finds friends in the animals and seven dwarfs she comes across. Eventually, the stepmother tries to do away with her for good, but Prince Charming saves Snow White in the end.
In 1937 this was probably a wonderful story. In 2011 there's so much wrong! Even as a kids film, it feels quite dark with the evil stepmother not holding much back when she requests a Huntsman to kill Snow White and bring her heart back in a box! The stepmother's ultimate death is fitting but still quite dark!
In today's world, if a girl were to let herself into someone elses house, I doubt the reception would be so welcoming as the one given by the dwarfs when they found her sleeping in their beds :P.
