Review of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1938) by Doctor P — 18 Apr 2011
The First of Disney's animated films as well as the start of the golden age of Disney animation.
The animation here is beautiful and many animated films still can't match after nearly 75 years since it's release. The songs are well written and always pleasant to hear and even watch. The Dwarfs and the Wicked Queen are some of the most memorable characters in film history, they steal every scene they're in.
Unfortunately there are imperfections to this film. To begin with Snow White is never fun to watch in the least bit, there's no denying she is drawn beautifully but she never really does much to really make her a fun or interesting character. The Prince hardly adds much and by the time he appears in the end it just feels like he was tacked on for the sake of a happy ending.
Is it a perfect film? no. Was it a good start for Disney? Yes.
