Review of Snow White and the Huntsman (2012) by Miguel Angel L — 02 Oct 2013
This wasn't actually as bad as I thought it was going to be. I was expecting it to be incredibly poor, mostly because I find Kristen Stewart absolutely repugnant and secondly because I'm very cynical about Hollywood's rebranding of remakes as "re-imaginations".
I can't deny that Kristen Stewart was an atrociously bad casting decision as Snow White, but I saw past that to take in the visual craft in creating the fantasy setting, all the production values and special effects are of the standard expected for a big budget blockbuster and Charlize Theron portrays the villainous Evil Queen very well.
I'm familiar with the Snow White fairy tale, so even though this was a "re-imagination" it was still quite predictable, unfortunately the film gets a bit silly when Snow White turns into a hybrid of Henry V & Elizabeth I.
I also can't help but notice that many modern fantasy movies owe an awful lot to The Chronicles Of Narnia & Lord Of The Rings for their inspiration. Nevertheless, overall this is a decent family adventure movie.
