Review of Snow White and the Huntsman (2012) by Jonathan S — 08 Jul 2013
Had lots of potential except for one problem: Kristen Stewart. It also suffers from the same problems as Mirror Mirror: fantastic visual style, but weak on story, but it makes up for most of it so you can still get some enjoyment out of it.
Kristen Stewart is unsurprisingly dull and as usual stands around blank faced with mouth agape. The story is also riddled with more plot holes and inconsistencies than a row boat with a woodpecker on it.
You should really watch it for the visuals alone, they are that impressive, though again don't expect much else from it. If you are forced to choose between either Snow White & the Huntsman or Mirror Mirror though, I would have to say the former is a better choice simply because it takes itself more seriously than Mirror Mirror and the visuals really are impressive; at least the visual budget was well spent on.
Of course if you have small kids then go with Mirror, which still boasts a strong visual aesthetic and won't frighten the kids as easily. If you really want a quality Snow White film then your best option is to just watch the classic Walt Disney animated feature, or better yet read the original tale and let your imagination do the work.
