Uneven attempt at bringing the fairy story up to date. Sanders has some real strengths in visual storytelling and the film looks gorgeous. He has a brilliant cast lead by Theron and nice eye candy all round but its all connect the dots until the middle of the film when the seven dwarves enter and lift the film.
The fact that each dwarf is portrayed by a major character actor does not hurt. The film never surprises and the third act is incredibly inept leading to a thoroughly insipid conclusion.
