Review of Snow White and the Huntsman (2012) by Tyler R — 06 Jun 2013
Dark, grim, dreary, and gritty. Welcome to Snow White and the Huntsman. Now, I don't have anything against films being dark and dreary, but that's not an excuse for poor acting, wasted writing, and bad direction.
The film follows Snow White as she tries to reclaim her father's kingdom. Now, the film has pretty good production values with the sets and visual effects, but the acting is squandered. Charlize Theron overacts and hams it up, Chris Hemsworth seems to be as confused as we are as to why he was chosen, and Kristen Stewart is dead eyed and emotionless as always, and that's a terrible combination for the main star.
The direction is all over the place and ruins most scenes. The writing juggles so many ideas and tones, it just never settles on any. This could have been a fun and interesting take, but it ended up being a waste of time.
