Review of Snow Cake (2006) by Eric H — 16 May 2008
I was afraid constantly throughout this film that all concerned were in over their head. I shouldn't have been. The performances stay on track, skirting the edge of maudlin without falling in. Lessons typically used in this subject matter are taught, not preached.
A couple of questions are addressed rather late in the story and the title reference is a little too quaint, but that didn't matter. I could have done without the voice-over at the end though. Still, I would have to say that it was one of the most satisfying dramas that I have seen in a while.
Well worth looking into.
