Review of Snow Angels (2007) by Will J — 23 Apr 2008
This is the kind of film that makes me reevaluate the films I give 5 stars. This film is a masterpiece and easily David Gordon Green's best film since George Washington, and the first of his films that I could say "Wow, this is 110% David Gordon Green".
Yes, David Gordon Green has finally come into his own. This film is like a punch to the throat, and the way in which Green weaves characters lives together with such ease and how he tells these stories with such heart and humor has to surely make most directors green with envy.
This film will crush you and uplift you at the same time. Green's eye for detail, especially that of a small town/rural america, is staggering. Green knows his world and gives it so much love. I don't want to say much else as you should go into this film knowing as least as possible (don't even watch the trailer), but just know that a film like this only comes around ever so often, and the voice of David Gordon Green is one that is very rare and very needed in todays faceless cinematic world.
This is a genuine classic.
