Review of Snow Angels (2007) by Kevin W — 24 Sep 2008
Wow. David Gordon Green is something else. If you a familiar with his previous movies, just pick this one up because you will probably find it on par with or better than them.
Snow Angels, like his previous films just feel real. If you don't like films where people act like jerks, or where the difference between "good" and "bad" is muddy, you might not like this one. The same reasons why some people hate his movies is the same reason why some of us love them and hail them as masterpieces. His films are polarizing because of how they present life.
Snow Angels is deep man, just like all of us, these people have problems. The interesting thing, again like his other films, is how he can so easily bounce from highly dramatic to highly comical. Sometimes you aren't sure if you should laugh or cry too, which again I feel is like real life.
I tell everyone I know now about David Gordon Green, and I can't figure out why he is not yet a house hold name. The things he is doing for indie cinema, and now even hollywood (with Pineapple Express) are unfathomable for the short period of time he has been on the scene.
I can't recommend this one enough.
(Side note- how is this the 70's? I saw flat panel lcd's in the kitchen, a character had a cell phone, and numerous other things. I think this is just supposed to be a small town kind of thing. Maybe the original story was set in the past, but this definitely isn't.).
