Review of Snow Angels (2007) by Phoebe R — 25 Sep 2008
I really liked this movie. It was far from perfect and had a few glaring problems even, but I still give it a high rating. Mostly this film had a pacing and depth that I really like and connect with in films.
It is slow paced and never goes for the emotional punch that one would expect from a movie dealing with such intense themes, including abuse, young love, and the death of a child. I like when films are subtle and "cold".
I get annoyed when directors try to force emotions from the audience with dramatic music and dialog. In Snow Angels the people seem to float around living their lives the way people do. Scenes of tragedy are often followed but simple undramatic moments.
I find this affect much more powerful. It also is a film that shows people's flaws and lets you decide for yourself if you understand or despise them.
