Review of Snow Angels (2007) by Myles H — 02 Nov 2008
Well, looky here. A sad and tragic independent movie. And once again it is instantly very good.
It's hard to come up with some stuff to write, because this film basically just follows the lives of several people in a small town. Some filmmakers can make even that compelling. We get to see the lives of some tortured people imploding before our very eyes. That is always exciting when acted well.
Consequently, why isn't Sam Rockwell a bigger star? He is downright brilliant. And can play a drunk like nobody's business. There are many other un-showy but excellent performances as well. Sometimes less is more, and the cast of this movie got that down pat. Everyone more than pulls their own weight. Casting director, take a bow.
The lesson, I guess, is that life goes on. Even amidst tragedy there is love and forgiveness and all that crap. All wrapped in a casing of some depressing shit. But seriously, Snow Angels is a great movie, even more so because they saved the dog when I was dead certain he was gonna die. That's integrity.
