This was a difficult movie to watch, which I did not realize until fully invested in the characters. I don't recommend this for married couples... just too much tragedy. The consequences of emotional suppression and avoidance are illustrated more so in quiet scenes.
The dramatic scenes very much pierced the serenity, but also gave depth to the characters. Beckinsale and Rockwell gave excellent performances (though Beckinsale looked too pretty for the character). A film styled around the themes of pain and loneliness can still leave you with a sense of peace.
