Review of Snow Angels (2007) by Jenny Z — 27 May 2009
A very nice film that was seemingly ignored during its release last year. I saw this on dvd and intend to watch it again since I was a bit ADD at the time I saw it.
An interesting analysis into how the lives of a few characters overlap in a small town, centering on Kate Beckinsale's caustic relationships. What I liked about this film is that unlike other linkage type dramas (the OD Babel comes to mine), it isn't overwrought. There's a dramatic element, but at the same time it's very believable. Angarano's sideline plot tries to temper the extreme end of Beckinsale's plot by emphasizing new found love and renewal as the antithesis to the overwhelming loss of beckinsale's plot.
The characters are flawed and quirky, making them relateable and even hate-able. Executed by a fine cast.
