Review of Snow Angels (2007) by Jeff T — 12 Jul 2009
A depressing indie movie about two families in turmoil in a small town. I've said it before but I'll say it again. Sam Rockwell is an underrated actor. I look forward to seeing Moon later this year in which it looks like he has a lot of solo time on screen.
Rockwell is very convincing in Snow Angels as is Michael Angarano, a promising young talent. These kinds of indie dramas/tragedies are depressing but enjoyable. This movie kind of reminds me of movies like In the Bedroom and maybe to a lesser extent The Squid & The Whale which was more light-hearted than this.
The movie manages the whole cross-weaved storyline idea without being too hokey or obvious. There's few enough characters that it's believable and enjoyable to watch them interact.
