Review of Snow Angels (2007) by Wynne P — 25 Jul 2009
A very good film and very dark tragic material. If you've ever seen any potential in Sam Rockwell as an actor, you must see this movie. He was a tour de force in Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, but now I feel like I've met the character he plays in this film.
The same can be said of the performances by Olivia Thirlby and Amy Sedaris. I know these people. This movie is principally about the absolute destruction of these characters' relationships. However, with all of the nightmare of irreparable damage, this did not depress me at all.
For one, the realism of it and the acting lent a feeling of inevitability to the proceedings. It wasn't so much predictable as I fully understood just why these characters did what they did, even if the choices were utterly horrible.
The movie is never cynical about it and never completely hopeless. Life goes on - people change and grow. Bomber!
