Review of Snow Angels (2007) by Nick B — 24 Sep 2009
Florida Film Festival reviews:
This, essentially, was my reason for going to the Florida Film Festival...and, boy, did it pay off!
I had been waiting to see this film ever since I saw the trailer. I just recently watched D.G. Green's GEORGE WASHINGTON and loved it. But this...this film is already a contender for my favorite film of the year. It is guaranteed to end up in my "Top 5" at the end of this year.
The characters are all extremely well acted, especially by the film's three leads (Kate Beckinsale, Sam Rockwell, Michael Angarano). In fact, it is probably both my favorite Kate Beckinsale performance (not many films of hers to choose from) and favorite Sam Rockwell performance. Also, Olivia Thirlby (of JUNO fame) gave an outstanding performance as Lila. I felt as if her character in JUNO was underused and now, I feel as if this film will give her a great performance to add to her resume.
David Gordon Green did a fantastic job of balancing the humor and tragic drama of the story and the two different stories/relationships that oppose one another. He is quickly, and easily, becoming one of my favorite directors.
Highly recommend (if you did not get that from my review...)!
