Review of Snow Angels (2007) by Daniel K — 14 Dec 2009
2: A big disappointment. David Gordon Green seems to be on a bit of a downward spiral. His first films seemed invested with a nonchalance, genuine sense of place and character, and inventiveness that was refreshing and admirable.
However, they seem to have become less and less impressive over time. I loved George Washington and All the Real Girls. Undertow was interesting, but less effective. This was a sad showing. It's a bit difficult to rate Pineapple Express against the other pictures, but I'd say it's inferior to even Undertow.
I was never very invested in this story. The outcome seemed inevitable and uninteresting, as virtually all the characters were. It's an uninspired story, with uninspired performances, and mostly uninspired filmmaking.
It did have brief moments where it broke free, such as the shots of the town sans main characters, but for the most part it was too hung up on themes Green failed to make me interested in.
