Review of Snow Angels (2007) by Ray D — 20 Dec 2009
A horror film for people who don't like horror films, David Gordon Green's SNOW ANGELS is that rare work--the collaboration between an obviously-talented director and talented actors that didn't work for me at all, and by the end of the film had just made me angry.
Sam Rockwell in particular, acts the heck out of his character--an alcoholic religious fanatic separated from his wife and daughter. When a tragic accident happens, Rockwell falls into a downward spiral that manages to be both horrifying and utterly, sadly predictable.
The setting and many of the characters feel true-to-life, but there's no spark---just a contrast between one pair of young lovers and an older generation that serves as a poisoned love-letter to small town life.
