Review of Snow Angels (2007) by H. Paul M — 02 Sep 2010
When film critics fawn over this seeming ?independent? and ?working-class? blip of cinematic art, don?t be naive. David Green is but a young man who has too early granted himself the luxury ? indeed, the laziness ? of pursuing ironic commentary on the human condition.
Predictably, he navigates the pertaining issues with extraordinary cliche. This is NOT a work of art that arose from America?s working-class, small-town silent majority. This is an elitist, cynical and conveniently bigoted film that employs religious, economic and psychological stereotypes in the service of an overall bland story.
Moreover, it treats the psychoses and resulting homicide with such lavishing detail that its tone creeps well into a territory of perversion ? all eyes on little Mr. Green for that.
