Review of Snitch (2013) by Sagaciousfrank . — 09 Sep 2016
Snitch sees Dwayne Johnson as the owner of a construction yard whose son gets into deep trouble with a drug cartel. After learning the options of getting his son out of prison are limited, he decides to take matters into his own hands by working simultaneously with the cartels and government to find a way to get his son's sentence erased.
Personally, I love Dwayne Johnson as an actor. One look at the cover of Snitch and you'll think it's another hard-nosed, bad to the bone role for The Rock, but it's not. That is both a good thing and a bad thing.
His personality and appearance are best suited for those rough-edged characters, opposed to this "reserved" average Joe character. But, it's different and he makes it work, even though when he gets in a tight spot, you wonder why he doesn't just lay the smackdown on the enemy.
Overall, this is a solid crime film. It's not great by any means. There are some dull moments and some below average performances, but for the most part, everything is well put together. The main downfall here is that there are several unrealistic situations.
Also, things tend to be cut out. The symmetry could have been much better. I did enjoy watching it though, mainly due to Dwayne Johnson's star power. It's definitely worth a rent. (3/5).
