Review of Sniper: The White Raven (2022) by Icivindur — 28 Oct 2022
With the undergoing biggest war since the WWII I don't watch action movies. All of them look ridiculous compared to the real events, real villians and real heroes. Farthermore I couldn't expet much from Ukrainian movie given the unhealthy tendency of recent movies to copy Hollywood in it's worst and with low budget. What brought me to the White Raven is that it was based on the true story and that the actor who played lead role in the movie is actually fighting on the frontline now. So Igave it a try. And the movie turned out to be a real pleasure surprise.
The movie is pretty realistic in the depicture of low intensity war that was waged by Russian invading army against Ukrainians in the east of Ukraine since the spring of 2014 and up to february 2022. Now all is different. But this movie, nontheless gives a glimpse to the past and expains where that resilement with wich Ukrainians are resisting Russian invaders came from. Russian unmotivated sadism and brutality are well known to Ukraians for many years. With their brutality they also bringing up reality that capable of awakening even the most hardcore pacifists.
Thus we witness transformation of a clueless pacifist, living in his dreamworld into relentless warrior, an elite counter-sniper, using all his wits to protect his homeland from sadistic invaders. Despite low budget, dramatically thiis movie is much better than most Hollywood action films. Camerawork is excellent, sniper duels and sniping craft depictured wonderfully. This movie deserves its honest 8 out of 10.
