Review of Sneakers (1992) by Tyler S — 03 Aug 2007
Like Grosse Pointe Blank and Back to the Future, this film shows that a film can be perfect without plunging the depths of character. Phil Alden Robinson wrote and directed this after Field of Dreams and then his next film was cancelled on the first day of principal photography and he barely worked again.
Jesus Hollywood is nuts. Fortunately, he maks several million a draft as a rewriter like Callie Khouri and Bill Goldman but it is craxy that we are denied the raw talents of these people as auteurs. Anyone who wants to write a detective film or an "onion" structure should study this film carefully.
