Review of Snatched (2017) by Pericles B — 13 May 2017
Just viewed Snatched. And wasn't expecting any great shakes. Which was just as well. Have been a Goldie Hawn fan for decades. Even her misses. Amy Schumer, I only know through some stand up and Trainwreck.
The best thing about this movie is the support cast. Wanda Sykes, real and amazing. Joan Cusack, funny without saying a word. Christopher Meloni, gorgeous and always a winner. There are some funny moments.
And Goldie only really shines when the inevitable mother daughter showdown ensues. Which throws in some much needed drama. The script is lazy and disjointed. Too much of the dialogue is thrown away. I had the feeling they were all looking for a better movie, and this was all they could get.
Which may or may not be true. Much of the premise is appallingly horrific. In more capable hands this could really have been a good film. Think of Hawn's work in the 70's 80's and into the 90s.
It's hard to care about any of them. And the ones we do begin to care for, are brutally thrown away. And I do mean thrown away. This is an example of an incredibly inept attempt at cashing in on some real star power.
I felt used, and badly, coming away from this. The cast deserved so much better. And so do we, the paying audience.
