Review of Snatch (2000) by Monty H — 17 Dec 2012
Guy Ritchie's follow-up to the awesome Lock, Stock and two smoking barrels is another winner. Despite a double meaning title...the name sounds like a porno film, this film is anything but. Continues in the same vein as Lock and Stock but expands to include some heavyweight actors in Brad Pitt, Benicio Del Toro, and Dennis Farina. The plot is once again multi facet with a bunch of weird and humorous characters. It seems everyone is after this 86 carat diamond that thief Frankie Five Fingers (Del Toro) stole and everybody from boxing promoter Turkish (Jason Statham), crime boss Brick Top, hit man Bullet Tooth Tony (Vinnie Jones), Ex KGB agent Boris the Blade, a New York wiseguy (Dennis Farina) and gypsy boxer Mickey (a wild Brad Pitt) and other assorted criminals and low lifes. Everything and everyone comes together for one explosive climax. Snatch is loaded with the same type of action and humor Lock and Stock had and it all works again. Brad Pitt is sensational as Mickey, who you can barely understand when he speaks. Statham gets a much bigger role than he had in Lock and he is quite good as Turkish. Vinnie Jones is once again on hand and he brings it home as Tony, the hitman. Farina is hilarious as Avi, the New York wise guy who comes all the way to London to find the diamond. If you enjoyed Lock and Stock, then you should be equally entertained by Snatch.
Oh and the three pawn shop guys who get involved are funny as hell.
[Tyrone just backed into Franky Four Fingers' van].
Tyrone: I didn't see it there.
Vinny: It's a four ton truck, Tyrone. Its not as if it's a bag of fucking peanuts, is it?
Tyrone: It was a funny angle.
[All three turn and look back at the truck].
Vinny: It's behind you Tyrone. Whenever you reverse, things come from behind you.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------.
Turkish: You take sugar?
Brick Top: No thank you, Turkish; I'm sweet enough.
