Review of Snakes on a Plane (2006) by Eric D — 15 Aug 2010
Enough is enough! I have had it with these motherfucking snakes on this motherfucking plane!
Ophidiophobia is the fear of snakes. Claustrophobia is the fear of enclosed spaces. What if you're trapped with hundreds of snakes inside an airplane, 10,000 feet above the ground? Would you get claustrophidiophobia? >:) This, apart from Anaconda, is the best snake film I've seen. Although most of the snakes seen in the film are actually CGI, they really mimic and look like their actual counterparts so you don't have trouble believing that a +spoiler+ python is swallowing a chihuahua whole. Thrilling, heart-pounding, and funny at times, Snakes makes you fear snakes... even for a little while.
Sean Jones (Phillips) is on vacation in Hawaii, but his holiday is cut as he witnesses the brutal murder of a judge by the hands of a Chinese mob boss, Eddie Kim (Lawson). He is then taken into police custody by Detective Neville Flynn (Jackson), after his life is put in jeopardy by a couple of Kim's thugs. Sean is reluctant to testify against Kim at first, but he later agrees and is set to be flown to Los Angeles for the trial. However, the plane they are riding has been rigged with a case full of poisonous and deadly snakes, their hunting and mating instincts brought to abnormal heights thanks to a pheromone sprayed inside the case. When the snakes are released, Sean and Neville have to find a way to make it to the LAX Airport and save as many passengers as they can.
Thrilling. This film goes to show audiences that these slithery reptiles don't have to be bigger in order to wreak havoc (Boa vs. Python, anyone?) and mayhem. I did notice an interesting bit in the film: when the male flight attendant places a snake in the microwave, he pushes a "snake" button. A bit unusual. Despite my mum having ophidiophobia, I ended up loving this film. A definite must-see. :D.
