Review of Snakes on a Plane (2006) by Davida. — 26 Aug 2006
As a 50-somethiing father who took his 21 year-old daughter the day before she left for Europe for a junior semester abroad - to get her mind off her anxiety about travel - we howled, clapped, and shouted along with the other audience members.
What a hoot. Look, no one expects an Acadamy Award here, unless they have a new category called "guilty pleasure." And that it was. It takes so many of the cliches of airplane/reptile/terror movies and plays them to the hilt (retreating to a smaller and smaller safe area, the male steward, the mother with the baby, etc).
What a better way to spend 2 hours on an August night than enjoying the camp and overboard nature of an exploitation film that really gets it right.
