Review of Smurfs: The Lost Village (2017) by Jonathan W — 25 Mar 2017
Smurfs: The Lost Village has a great concept that Sony did not execute well. The basic plot is Smurfette feels like she doesn't belong in Smurf Village beacuse she is the only girl, she embarks on a journey with Brainy, Hefty and Clumsy to find "The Lost Village" full of female Smurfs, good concept but the script falls flat, it is filled with lame and very juvenile humour and there are a lot of very cliche moments. The beggining of the movie was the better half of the movie, we got to see Smurf Village and the other smurfs were really intresting, baker smurf is in this movie and he is voiced by Gordon Ramsay which is awesome! I think all the Smurfs were great except Brainy. Brainy always irritated me but here he was super annoying and Danny Puddi did not do a good job in the role. Joe Manganiello did a fabulous job as Hefty, he had great one liners and his Smurf was my favourite. Gargamel was also really good in this movie, he was really funny and his sidekicks Azreal the cat and Monty the bird brought some laughs as well. The animation was absolutely stunning, the forbidden forest was breathtaking and the smurfs themselves were very well animated.
Overall Smurfs: The Lost Village had a great concept and managed to get some giggles from the audience, but ultimately fell flat on its blue face due to a really bad script that made you roll your eyes.

Should You See It? If you're a fan of the smurfs then you should check it out but keep in mind that the target audience for this film is young kids.
