Review of Smokin' Aces (2006) by Claudio G — 29 Oct 2009
I was on the way to giving this movie at least 3 stars...until the ending came along. How could you have a movie with awesome shootouts, scantily clad women, a woman firing away with a high powered rifle, a hilarious Jason Bateman and a decent concept for a plot and then ruin it with a lame-ass ending? I mean, this film is rushing along like a runaway frieght train and then it just falls off a cliff.
Ryan Reynolds and Ray Liotta are great as two FBI agent partners working a case. They mesh well with each other and support this film for as long as they can. Another problem with this film is the script can be a little confusing, although that mostly comes with the ending and its halfhearted attempt to make a creative end to the movie.
Bottom line, if you want some action that you don't need to think about, watch this...just don't expect the end to equal the beginning.
