Review of Smokin' Aces (2006) by Linda L — 05 May 2010
Director Joe Carnahan's came up with a high octane movie, 'Smokin' Aces. which had a tremendous cast of actors and surely it looked to be something good. Although it had some decent qualities, there was something missing.
First of all the beginning, where there was more then 20 minutes of story telling explaining each character, which made it come over as a comedy. Then the movie made a big turn and became very violent and brutal, with some messy action scenes.
Jeremy Piven did a great job as Israel. But his role was very small, I would expect more from him than just sniffing coke and sleeping with women. Ray Liotta also gave a good performance, and off course Ryan Reynolds was good.
I always liked Andy Garcia in every movie he was in, but in here there was not much character development for him.
