Review of Smokin' Aces (2006) by Jay L — 16 Apr 2011
"If word hits the street that there is a one million dollar bounty for Buddy Israel you're gonna have every fuc*in hitman in the free world lookin for him.".
Director Joe Carnahan collaborates with Producer Peter Berg in this all out furiously bloody and action packed thrill machine. A tremendously violent, funny as hell, brutally gritty, and completely engaging action packed thriller that blew me of of my seat. A nonstop ride through the land of complete awesomeness, it's over the top in every aspect and breaks the entertainment meter in every scene. Pure insanity, immensely fun, blazingly raw, and blisteringly hardboiled. The ultimate guilty pleasure. It's got multiple plotlines, each just as good as the other up until the insanely bloody and explosively off-the-wall finale. The twist at the end is a brain twister, one you won't see coming at all, I loved it.
Its packed with star power, crammed with all-star talent including brilliant performances by Jeremy Piven, Ryan Reynolds, Andy Garcia, Alicia Keyes, Ray Liotta, Ben Affleck, Jason Bateman and everyone else involved in this intense caper. Fun all the way around.
