Review of Smokin' Aces (2006) by Mariano F — 13 Jul 2012

I dearly wanted to like this film, but it just couldn't satisfy me. It was trying to be a lot of different things, like a Tarantino rip off type bastard child of Reservoir Dogs and The Boondock Saints or something but it never really succeeded in any of them.

I liked certain sequences and characters, but as a whole it should and could have been much better. It's best bet was to try and be an absurd, over-the-top action film along the lines of Domino or Dead Leaves, but it wasn't nearly so kinetic.

Had it gone that route, I'd probably have liked it. But it didn't, so I don't. Still, it wasn't as crappy as Shoot Em Up (i never miss a chance to trash that one).
