Review of Smokin' Aces 2: Assassins' Ball (2010) by John M — 06 Feb 2010
And you thought the first one was mindless and juvenile... Now I liked the first one; I mildly enjoyed myself despite the film never realizing the potential it had. What they've essentially done here is remake the first movie, and not very well.
It's basically the same set-up: there's a three million dollar bounty contract on the head of a soon-to-retire FBI agent (Tom Berenger). This brings all these crazy, deranged assassins converging in and trying to pick up a paycheck.
It's the same exact characters played by different actors. You got an ethnic chick assassin, a family of redneck assassins for "comic relief" (and they're all HORRIBLE)... You have so many characters with all these assassins and FBI agents that it's impossible for any character to have more than one note.
It feels like the script was written by a perverted thirteen-year-old boy; so much so that even Vinnie Jones can't save it.
