Review of Smokey and the Bandit (1977) by Riley — 09 May 2008
Really reminiscent of Vanishing Point, the classic car chase film from '71. However, Smokey and the Bandit trades in the stoic seriousness of VP for slapstick style comedy. It sounds disastrous but ends up working really well.
Fails to really reach the epic feel of VP, but does a really admirable job of coming close-- all the while flaunting a more beautiful woman than ever appears in VP.
