Review of Smokey and the Bandit (1977) by Seth D — 02 Mar 2009
In today's social climate dripping with irony and hipster "meh" I find it a bit awkward to express my honest love for this movie. There are untold numbers of buddy road movies but for me this is the one.
..THEE one. I love every character, I love the dynamics between the major players, I love the non-stop one liners...everything. It say would have to be a completely jaded pompous asshole (or possibly someone from a completely different culture) who doesn't love this movie.
Is it art? No. Is it a cinematic masterpiece that student film makers should pay attention to? Probably not. Is it a fun ride? Absolutely.
