Review of Smoke Signals (1998) by Daniel M — 16 Dec 2007
I very much liked this movie.
I thought the story was compelling, the actor very strong, and the writing thoughtful and heartfelt.
For me at least it worked on at least three levels. First, it gave a sense of what it is like to live on a reservation. Second, it told a personal story and how individuals dealt with the complexities of their lives. And third, and perhaps this is what most appealed to me, it told a story about fathers and sons that resonated strongly with my life.
Having said that, it is clear that this movie did not impact on many others as strongly as me.
