Review of Smoke Signals (1998) by Sarah G — 17 Jul 2008
This film has everything I could imagine a film having: a great cast, an amazing story, laughs and tears. The movie follows Victor and Thomas from Washington to Arizona, where Victor's estranged father has passed away unexpectedly. Along the way, Thomas incessantly tells his stories, and Victor broods irritably, and both men immerse themselves in memories of their life on the reservation. We meet a lot of interesting, and sometimes outrageous, characters along the way, and come face-to-face with our own stereotypes of what life is like "on the rez.".
Smoke Signals is emotional and funny, witty and real. I recommend it to anyone who hasn't already seen it.
