Review of Smoke Signals (1998) by Jason S — 06 Oct 2017
Like many road-trip movies, it was a bit disjointed and hard to tell where it was going, but there were many funny and thought-provoking parts. It made me sad that this is probably the best movie I've ever seen about modern Native people, because it's the ONLY one I've seen. I wish I had more exposure via movies and/or real life. Their accents sounded strange, but I don't know if that's because most Native Americans are actually played by Canadians or if that was an accurate accent for Native Americans on reservations in Idaho.
Of all the people from Northern Exposure to show up in this movie, Shelly was not the one I would have expected (although Marilyn was in this too).
