I don't know what worries me more. Whether it's that the horror genre is in such bad shape that films as basic as this are being lauded as good by the critics, or the fact that this is what mainstream audiences have accepted as the norm. That jumpscares are what counts for them as an experience to be enjoyed when it comes to horror.

Both are equally troubling, but to be fair, Smile is but another symptom of the disease, and what a mediocre attempt it is.
