Review of Smashed (2012) by Deri O — 26 Mar 2013
Un-watchable. My disk (from Redbox) stalled at 24 minutes in and I was glad to shut it off. This soap opera masquerading as art film. In other words, the worst kind of garbage. I am all in favor of films that explore the pain and price of alcoholism (or any addiction), it is a serious issue.
But there is no reason I would want to spend more than 30 seconds with any of these characters. They are despicable and there is nothing to learn. I'd rather watch an episode of the Big Bang Theory (and that's a really stupid show, but at least occasionally funny).
Spare yourself. We don't see any "mutual love of music (and) laughter", we just see drunks (and do-gooders) and are never given a reason for why they drink.
