Review of Smashed (2012) by Junior I — 15 Nov 2013
A warm, smart and funny look into alcohol abuse. Ponsoldt does a terrific job avoiding all the cliches in a story you'd expect to be wholly depressing and emotionally manipulative, giving the film a more inviting feel overall.
Another plus is the cast, Mary Elisabeth Winstead gives the performance of her career as an alcoholic trying to get sober despite her loving husband's (Breaking Bad's Aaron Paul) disapproval. Overall one of the stronger indie films I've seen this year.
