Review of Smashed (2012) by Artfully Bedraggled F — 23 Oct 2012
I saw Smashed by accident - I went to the wrong theater and miss the movie I wanted to see. Attractive because of its two stars, Aaron Paul and Mary Elizabeth Winstead, it was more of a showcase for its actors than a particularly memorable or interesting film.
I'm not sure why the screenwriters thought the story of a 30ish pre-school teacher's journey through AA would break any new ground. Winstead set herself up nicely for bigger and better roles. Paul channeled his character from Breaking Bad, except this time with alcohol.
Megan Mullally and Nick Offerman made for some borderline stunt-casting as principal and vice-principal, though they both pulled off their roles. It was a well-acted, well-paced, stylish-enough film that didn't really have that much to say.
