Review of Smart People (2008) by Amanda M — 03 Apr 2009
A ponderous pace and the depressing spectacle of an intellectual family caught in extended mourning compose a gray backdrop against which Thomas Hayden Church's rays of humor really shine. Ellen Page is masterful at playing precociousness, yet still shows the vulnerability of a girl who's emotionally confused.
It's not an optimist of a movie, but it is cautiously hopeful.
